This guitar has been my personal instrument and is truly exceptional. It’s feather light and has a wonderfully dry and robust tone. This guitar has an ebony T shape neck reinforcement which contributes to it being so light. The sides are slightly deeper than what is typically seen on 0-18’s from the 50’s. Additionally, this has passed through the hands of some prominent luthiers (listed below) and it’s been determined that the top is Vermont Red Spruce.
It had a neck set and a new Brazilian bridge installed in the fall of 2016 by noted luthier, Butch Boswell. The bridge plate is original! With some help from Greig Hutton (Martin Historian), we were able to determine that the serial number (133315) was stamped on October 22, 1953 and it cleared final inspection on January 19, 1954.
Structurally the guitar is in excellent condition. The top has had some overspray removed, but the rest of the guitar’s finish is untouched and original. The removal of the overspray was very well done and overall the top finish looks cohesive with the rest of the guitar. There is a small repaired crack on top between the pickguard and bridge and a repaired crack on the side a few inches to the left of the end pin. Both have been very well repaired and are tight. The pickguard and tuners are original.
Priced with a very nice Visesnut case.
