2005 Gibson F5-G with a big sound! This mandolin was recently with Danny Roberts who gave it a set up and brought it up to speed. He installed new frets, a pearl nut, radiused the fretboard, and scooped the extension. As to the history of this mandolin, it was built while Danny Robert’s was overseeing the mandolin department at Gibson and then was purchased by Gibson employee, Joe Vest who owned it for 20 years. It’s one of the better F5-G’s that I’ve played with throaty tone and a big chop. There are a couple minor dings, most of which can be seen in the photos, but over all is in very clean condition for its age. There is some reddish discoloring behind the bridge (can be seen in photos), probably from where touchups had been done at some point after the bridge was moved forward. Overall this is a fantastic sounding mandolin that’s been well preserved.

  • Curly maple back, sides, and neck

  • 12” fretboard radius
